As of 1 April 2023, the new National Minimum Wage rates are in force. The new increased rates are:

  • Age 23+ (The National Living Wage) – £10.42
  • Age 21 – 22 – £10.18
  • Age 18 – 20 – £7.49
  • Age 16 – 17 – £5.28
  • Apprentices – £5.28

This represents a 9.7% increase across all categories, as per the Low Pay Commission’s recommendation, to help tackle the current cost of living crisis.

For employees, it is important to ensure you are being paid the new National Minimum Wage rates. For employers, it is important to implement the new rates as of 1 April 2023 to avoid claims for failure to pay the National Minimum Wage.
